I extended and maintain the package to support diagrams I need for coursework and my thesis. I rebuilt the English documentation and worked examples, and released version 1.0.0 on CTAN in October 2026.
TikZ-UMLD is derived from Nicolas Kielbasiewicz’s TikZ-UML 1.0. It keeps the original class, package, use-case, state, sequence and component diagrams, then adds the notation and rendering fixes I needed.
More of the notation, inside the document
The additions include static object diagrams, proper two-compartment enumerations, and commands for UML constraints and operation modifiers. These distinguish static, virtual, pure-virtual, overriding and query operations without having to hand-format each label.
I also added pointed notes and more control over relationship stereotypes: their position, anchor and background can be adjusted separately. Smaller fixes cover abstract and interface typography, underlined object names, consistent arrow tips, actor proportions and dashed sequence lifelines.
Some of the work is less visible in a finished diagram: correcting self calls and multiline sequence calls, fixing interactions between TikZ environments and key handling, and removing stray spacing or typeset placeholders. Those details matter when a package is embedded in a larger LaTeX document.
A diagram, kept with its source
The worked example below models a radiation simulation. The class diagram combines abstract plants, three singleton radiation types, aggregation and composition, and pointed notes attached to individual operations. The diagram lives in the same LaTeX source as the explanation, so I can change them together.

\umlclass[type=abstract]{Plant}{
\umlcon{\# nutrition: int}{getter}
}{
\umlpvirt{+ newDay(Radiation)}\\
\umlcon{+ isAlive(): bool}{virtual,query}
}
\umlnote[x=-5,y=2,px=-2.5,py=-1,width=10em,anchor1=-30]{Plant}{
\textbf{return} 0<nutrition;
}
The excerpt shows an abstract class, constrained attributes and operations, and a note pointing to a chosen location on the class. The downloadable source contains the exact layout and all the pointed notes shown in the preview.
Documentation and release work
Version 1.0.0 was published on CTAN on 22 October 2026. The release announcement records the first release of this maintained derivative, distributed under AGPL-3.0.
The user guide is hosted upstream, with the distributed package and documentation also on CTAN.
The 2026 documentation work brought the English manual and examples into line with the current command names and behaviour. The full example follows a radiation simulation through several diagram types; smaller feature examples make it easier to see one command in isolation.
The repository’s Makefile builds the manual and examples with latexmk. A release target rebuilds the PDFs and packages them with the source, so the archive includes examples people can read before setting up a local build. Obsolete figures and documentation were removed as part of the cleanup. The changelog records the UMLD-specific changes since the fork in 2024.
